The Alley
November 17, 2018
On the way from BGBJ to Serang, it is best to cross over the River of Dreams and access it via this thoroughfare. I am just going to call it the Alley for simplicity.
In some ways, this place sums up and acts as a microcosm of Bantar Gebang - people live here, alongside the trash, as well as sorting facilities - chickens scurry about, and of course there are the ubiquitous flies. The floor is covered with large pieces of cloth, and when it rains (as it has done often) the ground becomes very soft underfoot. The Alley is constantly host to small trucks laden high with huge sacks of trash, either coming in or being taken away.
The people can often be seen here sorting through the trash, or sitting with their families doing what families do. They are always friendly despite the fact that it must be wearing to always have people walking through their neighbourhood - especially the foreign visitors who generally come this way.
